Introduction

Atmanirbhar Bharat or Self-reliant India by 2022 is the vision of new India envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. In order to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence, we are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi has old legacy of developing many nutri-products in the area of nutrition and by developing biofortified crops for uplifting the nutritional status of majority of Indian population. Division of Biochemistry, at IARI, is actively involved in developing efficient protocols for enhancing nutritional value of food along with the ease of processing. The recent additions are pearl millet and maize flour based; Gluten regenerated products: Hallur & Makai with improved dough making qualities, good for baking industry. This not only diversify our food basket, but also pay returns to the farmers. Division of Genetics along with Division of Biochemistry has developed Nutri-green kit: Tiny Fields – a concept of growing nutri-rich microgreens at household or MSME levels. The diversification of having microgreens of vegetable, millets, pulses and cereals were optimized with their nutritional profiling.
Division of Biochemistry is known for his Human resource and capacity building in different areas of nutrition, basic research and present workshop cum Hands-on-Training has been planned for the students, researchers and entrepreneurs for providing the training on recently developed nutri-products like Tiny Fields, Hallur & Makai. Detailed hands-on-training is being organized along with lectures by eminent scientists in order to build confidence among the young mind for taking care of their health as well as of their income.
